Eltham Choi Kwang Do

Individuals, training in Choi Kwang Do, focus on achieving optimum health and wellness by training at a moderate level of intensity in classes, rather than training at a high intensity for a competition.

Choi Kwang Do classes are taught in a friendly, family-orientated atmosphere, and in a fun and easy to learn manner. The development of character and mental strength based on CKD’s principles is considered the most important overall goal in CKD training along with the attainment of proper CKD's techniques.

Eltham Choi Kwang Do is a family run martial art school. John Edwards is the chief instructor who runs the school with his co-instructor Gillian who is his daughter. His wife Cathy runs the administration of the school and is an Assistant Instructor. Jamie is John's son in law and is an Assistant Instructor. This makes for a good humoured atmosphere and provides the butt of many jokes.

There are a huge variety of ages, backgrounds, and fitness levels in our school. However when learning Choi Kwang-Do those things all become irrelevant. John introduces not only Choi Kwang-Do techniques, but also uses his experience in studying other martial arts to teach self-defence that focus on ‘real life situations’. Thereby concentrating on what ‘really works’ – in the street, rather than outdated and impractical forms of ancient martial arts
